... will it handle? Or is the Hellcat just meant to be a quarter-mile monster? I may have missed it, but has there been much mentioned about how this car will behave in the twisties?

It will handle like a Challenger, that is to say, like a small single-family home.

Its sole purpose is to pee the furthest....thats it.

I'm sure the new Challenger Hellcat will be at least a competent at going through the twisties as the 2014 Challenger SRT. Which is to say, it can do it, but only as well as a big heavy car can. But as they say, when you have 700 hp in a car that isn't completely out of reach for the common man, who gives a fuck? That's PAGANI horsepower. God, I love America.

It probably handles like the Magnum I test drove once. Heavy, slightly hard to see out of, but decent for its overall size. Because it's about the same overall size as a Magnum, despite not being a wagon.

I'm starting to get the feeling that you don't much care for this car

The new SRTs handle way better than the Magnum era cars did. The new ones actually work pretty good.

I don't hate it, I just don't care for automotive pissing matches:
Hypercars - boring
HD trucks - 1000 ft-lbs and 50,000 lbs towing...give it time
German Muscle cars - yawn.
I like a car with a mission that isn't showing off.

Handling? What are you a damn communist?

FINALY someone who understands Exactly how I feel about modern cars. This for me will be a bit too much of a handfull and will be the true test if the people at dodge made the car handle properly even with 700 hp

Doubt it. it's still a gigantic thing that weighs a million pounds. But now can make exceptionally good elevenses.

You know, some of those things are useful/fun...I don't give a good godamn what anyone thinks of my Hellcat, 918, or M5 Comp. They're fucking insane to drive, that's all that matters to me. They put a smile on your face and scare the shit out of you. They look good, sound good, feel good. That's what it's all about. Or maybe I'm in the wrong place.

This vehicle's purpose is to:
1) Allow Dodge fans to thump their chests and brag about their team
2) Give guys of a certain age with disposable income something to buy and cruise around in / polish in their driveway, because it feels good to own nice things
3) Give guys with more money than sense a higher-end starting point for Modding, because the only thing more gratifying than a car that's cooler than that other model is a car that's cooler than that other example of the same model
4) Go to the local drag raceway and work on your times
5) Lose owners money to humble-looking cars that just pulled into town on a flatbed.
It'll bring plenty of joy to car guys. That's all any car need do.

As a previous Challenger owner(2010 SRT8 Manual) only one word comes to mind when it comes to handling. NOPE! no word of a lie my 2013 Ford Fusion can out handle my Challenger no problem.

The car is nice enough looking, but power without control is meaningless and this car does not strike me as one with no control.
